Glazyhaze – “Slap”

Glazyhaze – “Slap”

When we last checked in with Venice, Italy’s Glazyhaze, they’d just announced details of their second full-length album SONIC and shared the second of three preview tracks from the album. Well the album arrived this past Friday and with it came another video for latest single “Slap”. Which, in the parlance of our time, this record largely does.

It’s more dynamic in both song and sonics, and demonstrates more personality than their debut, 2023’s Just Fade Away, which was well-executed but largely shoegaze by the numbers. They addressed this in an interview last week with First Revival, along with the on-the-noseness of their name, and the Venice music scene, such as it is.

Just Fade Away was written when we were just starting out as a band and discovering shoegaze, we were totally hyped about it. So, while I think the songs are good, they were arranged and mixed following the typical clichés of the genre. With SONIC, that influence is still there, but we gave ourselves much more freedom in the songwriting process, letting the songs take shape naturally instead of forcing them into predefined patterns or genre clichés.
