Even if she didn’t make lushly icy dreampop that draws as much from the trip-hop scene of the ’90s as the shoegaze, Yndling – the musical project of Oslo’s Silje Espevik – would probably elicit those same sorts of adjectives just from how her Norwegian accent wraps around every syllable she sings. It’s the sound of glaciers moving, if that sounded like robotic snow angels and not, like, weird slow grinding (I would imagine). It’s absolutely a vibe.
She released her third album Time Time Time (I’m In The Palm Of Your Hand) last November and while she also just released a new song in “Shell” a couple weeks ago, I’ll go back to the title track of said record because I was convinced that that synth hook was a sample from something and I can’t figure out if it is or where it’s from so if you know, let me know.
Of the song, she says:
I think of this one as ‘trip hop with happy chords,’ It’s got lots of elements from older trip hop, like Massive Attack and Portishead, as well as newer artists like Erika de Casier. The theme is about growing apart, about feeling a relationship coming to a natural end, that things don’t feel the same anymore, but still wanting to stay in it a little bit more.

So yeah, she knows it’s kind of on the nose but that’s also the point. Just enjoy it.
