The Belgian quintent may take their name from the Elliott Smith album, but their sonic cues comes from the billowing echoes of the Slowdive-inspired branches of the shoegaze family tree. It’s no coincidence that Simon Scott mastered their third album, 2024’s Temporary Light; one can imagine listening to the record’s chiming guitars and drifting vocals bathed in monolithic reverberance that Scott’s notes from the band was “make it sound like Souvlaki. Please”.
And that’s the vibe here, to be sure. Most of the record hovers around a similar mid-tempo pace with variety coming from tweaks in intensity, but that uniformity is part of the beauty of the record. Album opener “Eternal Fall” is one of those more intense tracks, and comes with an appropriately tense and nocturnal video.
