Los Angeles’ Soft Blue Shimmer started their North American tour for third album They Will Leave Us With Nothing last week and will be rolling into Toronto tomorrow night for a show at The Baby G. They were here a couple years ago for a gig at The Monarch, which I missed because I was on a plane for Tokyo that night (though considering how long we were delayed, I could well have gone to the show and gotten back to the airport before we actually left) – there’ll be no such issue tomorrow!

And I’m excited for this show because with Nothing, the band has greatly expanded their sound beyond the lush, slightly languid vibes of 2022’s Love Lies In The Body. There’s an extra step in the tempos, an extra kick in the energy, and it really works for them.

They released a video for album opener “Frequency Hammer” late last year and another for record closer “Bodyknot” to go with the album release at the end of February. So yeah it took me a little while to get to it, but… worth it?
