The Sound – “Missiles”, live at No Nukes 1982

Cold War anxiety permeates a lot of the original post-punk bands, but it seems more to the fore with The Sound. Case in point, one of the standout tracks from their debut album Jeopardy, presented here in live form from their appearance at the “No Nukes” concert in Utrecht, Netherlands in April 1982. They may have been on the undercard, but the intensity of the performance – this was the set-closer – was certainly headliner-worthy.

A segment of their set was broadcast on Dutch TV – that’s where this footage is from – and the whole of the set was released a few years ago as The Dutch Radio Recordings 2. 09.04.82 Utrecht, No Nukes Festival, as apparently the Dutch liked them very much.

Why this song, today? Oh I dunno.
