Still Corners have undergone a number of transformations over their fifteen-plus years, from a band to a duo, and shifting from cinematic psychedelica to synth-forward dreampop to dusty Americana. I prefer some phases over others, but as they’re always centred around Tessa Murray’s breathy vocals and Greg Hughes’ atmospheric guitarwork, there’s usually something to fit my mood.
“Fireflies” comes from their second album, 2013’s Strange Pleasures, and in discussing the video for the song, Hughes and Murray copped to the ’80s-worshipping vibe of the clip in an interview with Vogue in 2013:
And while “Fireflies” was an official single for the record, the band self-released it as a 7″ in 2012 with a b-side, “Hearts Of Fools”, which has to date not appeared anywhere else and which I had not heard until, well, this moment.
