I’ve no shame in admitting that I only became a proper Psychedelic Furs fan with 2020’s Made Of Rain and so while they’ve hardly been strangers to local stages since reforming in 2000, I’ve never seen them live. So count me as excited that I will be seeing them when they tour said record through Toronto this coming July.

But I’ve also spent the last while getting caught up on their eighties discography, so I expect to enjoy all of the set list, whatever it might be, though I’d be surprised if it didn’t include this cut – the second single from their 1980 self-titled debut.

In a 2019 interview with Classic Pop, bassist Tim Butler recounted the recording of the song as:

Richard (Butler) used to sing Sister Europe in a more aggressive way and Steve was like, ‘Think of it as late night in a smoky bar or pub and it’s all quiet. Keep it more low key, the way you sing it,’ and he did. And it turned out to be a better way of doing it.
