Following an astonishing show in Toronto last night in support of their latest Sit Down For Dinner, a look back at Blonde Redhead’s finest moment, at least from my perspective. The New York trio have always been hard to pin down, stylistically, because their uniqueness keeps them from fitting neatly into any pigeonhole – noise? Post-punk? Experimental? Yes to all, but on 2007’s 23, their pivot embraced their melodic instincts and they created the year’s finest shoegaze record as well as their career highwater mark.
The title track was the first single released from the album and it’s one of those songs I can listen to endlessly, on repeat. But more likely I’ll just put the album on over and over again.
And as a bonus, a stripped-down, live in-studio performance of same saved from the wreckage of the late, lamented Spinner.com.
