She’s Green – “Willow”

Minneapolis shoegaze heroes She’s Green dropped their third single of the year yesterday along with news of their next proper release. To the first item, “Willow” is a brief, burst of kaleidoscopic light – reflected in the tone of the accompanying video – though it comes from a heavier concept:

‘Willow’ reflects on our dying relationship with the natural world—a relationship that’s not always loving, but formative nonetheless, it’s an energetic song that we love playing live.

She’s Green Announce New EP ‘Chrysalis,’ Shares Single “Willow” @ Indie Is Not A Genre

And to the second item, their second EP Chrysalis will be released on August 15 as the proper follow-up to 2023’s debut EP Wisteria. While an official track listing hasn’t been revealed, it’s good odds that all three new songs will be on it; streaming services have even taken the preemptive step of collecting them all as part of a Willow EP in their catalog for right now. We’ll see what happens in a month. Update: Stereogum has the track listing, and yup – we’ve now heard the first three of five tracks.

As mentioned in the quote, anyone who has seen them on tour this year has likely already heard “Willow”. The band played it in a three-song studio session for University of Minnesota campus radio, Radio K, which you can watch along with an interview and behind-the-scenes footage. Also notable is a comment about their release plans for this year:

“their bass player told me they’ll be dropping two eps after willow, didnt say when but probably later this year. they’re supposed to be like a part 1 and part 2”

And really, if you can’t trust @vitaeante4478 then we should just shut the internet down right now.
