The Floatings – “Everlasting Gaze”

The Floatings – “Everlasting Gaze”

I spent most of 2025 pretty high on Tokyo’s The Floatings and their debut album Flowering so it was kind of bittersweet when they pre-empted the big news of making my year-end list by announcing that singer re:caco was leaving the band. What I missed in that announcement was their promise of one more song from the original lineup to come in the Spring, and a hopes that the remaining members would carry on.

They’ve made good on the first part of that promise with a banger of a last song from the first incarnation of the band, the seven-minute epic “Everlasting Gaze”. Because of the phrasing of the band credits on the Bandcamp page, I asked the band if re:caco was still leaving the band and they replied:

We’ll announce the next vocalist once we’re ready! As we announced earlier, this song was produced by a group of five, including her!

@the_floatings

So it looks like they’ll be making good on the second part of their promise as well. I promise to be open and optimistic about The Floatings Mk2, but hearing how perfect re:caco was with the band, I’m cautious. We shall see.

The song made it into their last show set lists, including this performance at Total Feedback in October 2025 at Koenji High.
