Those who pay attention may note that I technically shared this song last Fall on its release, along with its companion B-side “Glow”, but that was a month before the official video for the song was released and considering how little quality video content there is from the band – I’ve been talking up the band for a couple years now and only posted on them twice – I think the double dipping is alright.
And it’s a beautiful video that deserves attention. Apparently shot in Japan – Melancholic Music specifically thinks it’s Morioka, Iwate and I certainly can’t say differently – cinematically tracking the friendship of two girls over the slow, sad, epic scope of the soundtrack. Fine work from director 315UDN.
Further, it’s an opportunity to catch up on happenings in and around the band over the past half year. They’ve picked up management and international booking agencies, both of whom promise new releases this year, and also look to have had some lineup shuffles beyond the principal songwriters of Ginny Kim and Vincent Hau.
Most immediately, though, the second edition of their Loveless Festival is the primary concern. This year ups the ante from the inaugural event, adding international acts like Laveda and Bubble Tea & Cigarettes to their lineup of GTA (and beyond) ‘gaze-adjacent acts as well as touring Ontario and Quebec with an impressive mini-bill ahead of the main events on July 25 and 26 along College St in Toronto. I would have loved to attend, having not had the chance to see them live since last May opening for Softcult, but unfortunately personal commitments look to have me out of town that weekend.
In advance of the fest, local alt-press outlet The Grind talked to some of the other folks in charge of Loveless and shine a spotlight on some of the other acts playing the event.
