Song Exploder: Slowdive – “Sugar For The Pill”

With news that Slowdive are back in the studio working on their fifth album, let’s go back five – FIVE?!? – years to July 2017 when Neil Halstead appeared on Song Exploder to dissect the band’s writing process, particularly as applied to my favourite song from the self-title record, “Sugar For The Pill”. And hearing the song broken down to the individual stems – the bass, the drums, Rachel’s harmonies – is just beautiful.

And listening to some of the parts, I realize that as thorough as the “pro” transcription of the song on Ultimate Guitar sounds, it’s still missing stuff like Christian’s parts. But the main parts, which are fun to play and luxuriate in delay pedals, sound right.

Also I totally forgot there was an “official” video for the song, and that the band appeared in it. Neil and Rachel, at least.
