Toronto’s Neverminds recently returned from their second Asian tour – impressive for a band that’s yet to release a full-length album – and one of the artifacts that followed them back was live footage from ubiquitous Japanese shoegaze documentarian Angel and one that caught my eye was performance of a specific track that appears on neither of the band’s EPs nor their “afterglow”/”dawn” double-single.
The song was “The Snow Will Catch Us Once Again” and was released on Christmas Day 2023, between the releases of Nevermind, The Summer and Nevermind, The Winter EPs, and it’s credited as a collaboration with twinotter, a truly mysterious character of indeterminate nationality, gender, and species. The Twinotter Bandcamp page offers no information but does have a variety of mini-albums and singles of expansive, evocative, mostly-instrumental dreampop that sound like Garageband staring wistfully out the window at the sunset. So naturally, it fits in with The Neverminds’ aesthetic quite well and despite the co-credit, it’s hard to see where one artist ends and the other begins and that’s just fine.
I can’t be sure if I’ve heard them play it live before in the times I’ve seen them, but it seemed to be a staple of their Asian tour set lists. Besides Angel’s footage taken from Era in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo, there’s another live recording that appears to have come from one of the South Korean shows that closed out the tour.
Perhaps it’ll be in the set when they play their first gig since returning home next month at The Monarch, opening for South Korean math-rockers Dabda, whom I raved out earlier this month. Needless to say, I’m very excited about the show which, as it stands, will be my last gig of the year.
Also following the band back was a number of interviews in a number of foreign languages. In conversation with Oaiko, they discuss their last Japanese tour and plans for another EP

Their chat with Hong Kong’s Bloody Mary was more high-level ahead of their first visit there:
And I included their second Sleep Like A Pillow interview as a late update on a previous post, but will include it here again for completeness:
